Red Bull New York have completed the transfer of Colombian defender Julián Bazán from Deportivo Pereira for an undisclosed fee, pending receipt of his P-1 visa, the club announced today. Bazan has signs a two-and-a-half-year MLS contract through the 2027-28 season with options for the 2028-29 season and 2029-30 season. The defender will occupy a U-22 Initiative spot on New York’s roster.
“We’re very pleased to add Julián to our club. He’s a player we’ve been tracking closely, and we believe his profile, work rate, and potential fit well with what we’re building,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “This is an important step in his development, and we’re excited to support his continued growth within our environment.”
Bazán, 20, has been with Deportivo Pereira since 2023. He has made 27 career appearances for the club, where he has tallied one assist. The defender made his debut for the club on August 6, 2024, in a 1-0 win over Boyaca Chico. This season, Bazán has made seven appearances in the first division of Colombian soccer, where he has tallied 630 minutes played.
“Julián has earned this opportunity through his commitment and performances. He’s a player who is eager to learn, competes the right way, and understands the demands of our group,” said Head Coach Michael Bradley. “We’re looking forward to integrating him with the first team and helping him continue to progress.”
The Pereira, Colombia native has represented Colombia at the U-20 National Team level. He has made 24 appearances for the U-20’s, including making six appearances at the 2025 U-20 FIFA World Cup. Bazán helped lead Colombia to a semifinal appearance, where they fell 1-0 to Argentina, but went on to win the third-place match against France.
