Red Bull New York have added Greg Mathieson as an Assistant Coach / Head of Match Analysis, the club announced today.
“Greg brings a strong football mind to our staff and his experience and attention to detail will add real value to our team,” said Head Coach Michael Bradley. “We are excited to have him join us as we continue to push the team forward.”
Mathieson, 38, spent the previous two seasons with Qatar National Team, where he was an Opponent Analyst. While with Qatar, Mathieson helped lead the national team to win the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and also helped the country secure qualification in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to that, he spent eight years with Liverpool F.C. in the English Premier League. Mathieson served as an Opponent Analyst from 2015 to 2018 and then served as the Chief Analyst under Head Coach Jurgen Klopp from 2018 to 2023. While he served in that position, Liverpool won the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League, 2019-20 English Premier League title, 2019 FIFA Club World Cup, 2021-22 FA Cup, and the 2021-22 League Cup. He was the Chief Analyst for over 290 matches under Klopp.
The Irvine, Scotland native served as a Scout for West Ham United from 2012 to 2014. He also had stints Blackburn Rovers and Hibernian FC as a Match Analyst. Mathieson started his career with Dundee United, where he was a Youth Coach from 2005 to 2009.
Mathieson will join Assistant Coaches Mike Sorber and Ibrahim Sekagya, and Goalkeepers Coach Jeremy Proud on Bradley’s staff.
