The New York Red Bulls have completed the transfer of Panama international Rafael Mosquera from C.D. Plaza Amador and signed him to an MLS contract, the club announced today. Mosquera signs a three-and-a-half-year MLS contract through 2028 with an option for 2029.
“Rafael [Mosquera] has shown great development with New York Red Bulls II and we are excited to give him this opportunity with our first team,” said Sporting Director Julian de Guzman. “He has very good quality and has great potential to help our club accomplish our goals.”
Mosquera, 20, has played the last three seasons with NYRB II, where he has made 44 career appearances and has tallied 10 goals and nine assists. This season, the winger has made 16 MLS NEXT Pro appearances and has scored six goals and tallied seven assists. His seven assists this season currently ranks tied for third in MLS NEXT Pro. Mosquera has recorded six goal contributions in his last four MLS NEXT Pro appearances. He made his first career appearance with the Red Bulls on July 26 against Chicago Fire FC.
Prior to New York, Mosquera spent two seasons with C.D. Plaza Amador of Liga Panamena de Futbol, making 12 appearances. He scored his first career goal with the club on April 6, 2023, against Portos del Este. The winger tallied his first career assist in a 2-0 win over Tauro FC on April 23, 2023. Mosquera made his debut on May 8, 2021, against Alianza FC at 15 years and 349 days old, making him the third-youngest player to debut in club history.
“We are happy to have Rafael [Mosquera] with our team, he has performed very well in his opportunities against Chicago and also Leagues Cup,” said Head Coach Sandro Schwarz. “He is a fast and skillful offensive player that will help in our style of play, and we are pleased to have him with us.”
Mosquera has represented Panama on the international stage, where he has featured for their senior national team for one appearance, which happened on February 9, 2025, against Chile in an international friendly. He has also featured for the Panama U-15, U-20, and U-23 Youth National Teams. Mosquera represented Panama at the 2024 U-20 CONCACAF Championships, where he scored three goals and tallied an assist, which qualified them to the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the seventh time in their nation’s history.
