Midfielder Felipe Carballo has returned to Grêmio following the expiration of his year-long loan, the club announced today.
“We want to thank Felipe [Carballo] for all his contributions to the club both on and off the pitch this last year and we wish him all the best in the next step of his career,” Head of Sport Jochen Schneider said. “Felipe was a hard-working player and helped the club create many memories, especially in last year’s playoff run, that will always be remembered.”
Carballo, 28, made 23 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls, where he tallied two assists. The midfielder also made three MLS Cup Playoffs appearances for the club, where he scored two goals, including the game-winner in the Red Bulls’ 2-0 win over rivals New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, which sent New York to their third Eastern Conference Final in franchise history.
Carballo became the ninth player in franchise history to score a goal in their first-ever playoff match for New York. The Uruguayan midfielder recorded his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win against Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field.
