An early own goal and a late-match breakaway sunk Red Bull New York, a 2-0 loss to Toronto FC.
Toronto opened the scoring in the third minute. Midfielder Theo Corbeanu took a touch towards the end line and crossed the ball into the six-yard box that took a deflection off the thigh of New York defender Justin Che’s thigh and fell into the back of the net.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 82nd minute. Midfielder Jonathan Osorio won a ball off a Red Bulls corner and played a ball through to forward Daniel Salloi who took a big touch, dribbled 50 yards and tucked a right footed shot into the bottom right corner.
"There's no—at least not that I know of—magic pill or perfect formula," Head Coach Michael Bradley said. "You have to, every day, keep at it. Be consistent with how you work, how you try to help the players understand moments, situations, individually, collectively. And so we—yeah, it's very—it's a similar message to, unfortunately, a few too many days this year where generally not bad, but we can't—we can't do enough to make our football and our good moments count in terms of goals.  Especially this week, the goals that we have conceded are crazy goals that come at really, really inopportune times. We're going to keep going, keep playing and keep fighting until the last second of this season. And the last second is still far away."
Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made three saves on the night.
New York will remain at Sports Illustrated Stadium to face off against Inter Miami CF on Saturday, October 24.
Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. ET with coverage on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and Red Bulls Radio in English via the Red Bull New York app and RedBullNewYork.com.
