MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: Red Bulls Fall to St. Louis

mr2 (2)

Red Bull New York fell to St. Louis CITY SC at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Wednesday night.

Missing multiple starters due to national team matches, New York fell behind early in the match. St. Louis added two goals in the dying moments of the match for a 3-0 victory.

"We gave away a bad early goal on a set piece, and then for most of the game, we played pretty well," Head Coach Michael Bradley said. "We did a lot of the things that you would need to do on a night like this against a team like that in a pretty good way. We created some big chances. Generally, after the set-piece goal that they scored early, the biggest chances of the game were for us. But we couldn’t score, or we didn’t score, and then the second and third goals at the end were frustrating goals to give away. Those were bad goals to give away. In the end, it’s a frustrating night, but there’s still everything to play for. Everything is still in our hands, and there are a lot of big games to come. Like we always do, we’ll look at it, make sure we find the right ways to improve, and make sure we’re ready 10 days from now in San Diego."

Sekou Kone made his first career MLS start. Pedro Castro and Connor Faello made their MLS debuts subbing into the match in the 63rd minute.

Faello is the fourth youngest defender in club history to make their MLS debut at 18 years and 203 days old.

Nate Worth made his MLS debut subbing into the match in the 84th minute.

Ethan Horvath made four saves on the night.

"In this last period, generally, there have been a lot of positives," Bradley said. "Tonight, the last thing we’re ever going to do is make excuses. It is the reality of playing in MLS that, for right now until the schedule changes, there are certain nights during international windows where you’re missing some guys. I give our team big credit because, in this last period, nobody has batted an eye. The guys who have been here have pushed and worked really hard. We were in a good position tonight to come away with some points, and in the end, we couldn’t make the plays that we needed to."

New York will then return back to Sports Illustrated Stadium to face off against San Diego FC for the first-time ever on Saturday, October 10.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and Red Bulls Radio in English via the Red Bull New York app and RedBullNewYork.com.
