USOC: Henry's Status Unclear Ahead of Tuesday's Match

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Thierry Henry was absent for the New York Red Bulls’ third round US Open Cup victory last week, and he might also miss their upcoming game against the Harrisburg City Islanders.

Henry’s status for the fourth round US Open Cup game Tuesday at Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, Pa., is up in the air because of the hamstring injury that sidelined him for much of May.

The Red Bulls’ Designated Player has recovered from the knock, but New York might continue to take precautionary measures to ensure he is fully healthy by the time league play resumes.

“With Thierry, he still feels a little bit in his hamstring, but he’s on the way back,” Red Bulls assistant head coach Jan Halvor Halvorsen told reporters following Friday’s training session. “Of course, he played against [Chivas USA on May 23], but we will prepare that he is back for the Chicago game [on June 17]. We haven’t taken any decision about this game on Tuesday with him.”

Henry has missed several games this season due to the hamstring injury he sustained while playing against the New England Revolution in late April. But when he has suited up, Henry has made an impact, scoring nine goals and assisting five times in nine league games.
