New York Red Bulls II head coach John Wolyniec, who’s in charge of the Red Bulls’ squad in Arizona, has been charged with the task of assembling a roster that consists of MLS, USL, Academy players and trialists.
Although it’s no easy task, Wolyniec has a plan to prepare his team to the best of his ability ahead of their next Desert Diamond Cup matchup on Wednesday.
“A combination of video, information, some of the exercises that we use during training, I encourage a lot of communication between the young players,” Wolyniec said. “Whether it’s using some style-of-play videos, showing them clips of the team so that they have an idea of the general tactics we have, and then as we go into training, stopping plays and showing them what some of those more specific tactics.”
The tools he uses are staples of the organization, which emphasize video analysis and utilize a distinct style of play.
For new players, such as the Red Bulls academy players and trialists, receiving playing time last weekend against Sporting KC will only serve to help the group’s cause.
“We have some clips from Saturday that are going to help these guys when they sit in video sessions and go through some of the things we need from them,” Wolyniec explained. “And then hopefully we’re taking steps towards Wednesday where we’re just that much better and repeat the whole process again before our last game on Saturday.”
With two games remaining in the Desert Diamond Cup this week, Wolyniec is confident in his team’s ability to gel as the week goes on and play more as a unit as camp continues.
“I’d say one good thing is that we know the style of play that we want, so it’s easy for me to give the information to the players,” Wolyniec said. “I know exactly what I need to tell them and having experienced this now for a little over two years, I usually know where they need work in the beginning and then layer it when they’re with us.”
