NYRB II head coach John Wolyniec
On getting a win at home:
Yeah, our home record hasn’t been stellar, there’s a few reasons for that. It’s good for us to be able to get results at home, and I hope that this will give us some confidence at home, and allow for our performances to be a little better, because at times it was good, but today was not a real good, consistent performance that you want at home. But we’ll take the win, we’ll take the three points.
On the team starting the game well:
Yeah, I kind of mentioned that, one, home record hasn’t been great, so let’s make sure that we come out, set the tone. Two, the opponents have had a change of coach, and a lot of times that inspires a team, gets them to bring a big effort. I think it was important for us to come out fast, I mean it always is, it’s always something that we talk about, so it was great to see that. I think it was difficult for us to maintain that for a couple of reasons. Changes in the lineup, the weather, tough day for us to really put a consistent effort in, so it’s good for us to get three points despite that.
On the halftime subs for MLS players on loan:
It’s just a long day. Just trying to be cautious, the health of the player comes first. Justin [Bilyeu] was very good in the first half, it was strictly a physical decision. We made sure that he wasn’t up, down, up, down, up, down throughout the day. To come in and be part of the 18, sometimes the young guys get pretty excited about that. You’ve got be here early, to warm up and sit down, to warm up, sit down… to play 45 minutes, to sit down and get up again, we felt like it might have been just a tad too much to take a risk on. I’m sure he would have been fine, but I’d rather go that way than be regretting things after.
On Tim Schmoll playing high up the field:
You know, we started losing a handle on the game. We were just trying to figure out how we could sort that out a little. We had a number of guys that were tired, and we just tried to bring some fresh legs. We were hoping that he could help us, guys were hitting balls up top for him to win aerial duels. We were having some issues too with set pieces too, so that was a consideration to help us with some matchups on some set pieces.
