'No Excuses' In Dropped Match vs. D.C.

The New York Red Bulls know their performance against D.C. United wasn't good enough.

"In the end, we did not create the chances we want," Head Coach Gerhard Struber said. "We did not have the right forward runnings in the right time. We were not ready enough to pick up points today, this is in the end, the answer. It is a bad feeling, we expect more and right now.

"We lost this game, and I cannot say we deserve more."

RBNY only had one shot on target despite holding 60% of possession.

Captain Sean Davis said losing -- especially to D.C. -- is never OK.

"It’s a disappointing loss, and there’s no excuses," Davis said.

Struber said he would like to see more hunger and fight out of his young squad.

"I think we have today, a team on the field, they are normally ready to create a very good performance, and the performance today was not enough," Struber said. "I think we have to find the reasons for that. I think this is very important and it is my responsibility."

The lone goal for D.C. came on a sloppy giveaway in New York's own end, leading to Ola Kamara's eventual game-winner.

"We didn’t give up too much but it comes down to every single play. We didn’t create enough, we didn’t create enough good looks on the goal and I think that speaks a lot about the overall team performance," Davis said. "We weren’t good enough, all of us on the field, so that’s the message now."

New York will need to take this game as a learning experience before facing the Conference-leading New England Revolution on Saturday at Red Bull Arena.

"I think we’re all going to need to reflect and look at the game tape and be honest with ourselves, but there’s a great opportunity on the weekend to turn the page," Davis said.
