New York Red Bulls Will Not Underestimate Seattle Sounders

Luis Robles

The New York Red Bulls want three points on Wednesday night against the Seattle Sounders. The two sides kick off at 8 p.m. ET at Red Bull Arena.

"We obviously just want to get the three points," Tim Parker said in his return to training from U.S. Men's National Team duty. "We’ve had a tough stretch of games with the Open Cup and two away games, so coming back and getting this home game is going to be important.”

This is the fourth game in 11 days for the Red Bulls, and will take on the Sounders team that is 10th in the Western Conference with 11 points through 12 matches and a -6 goal differential.

“They’re a low scoring team, but in the second half of the season they’ve found a way to turn their season around every single year," Tyler Adams said, also back from USMNT matches. "We can’t let them fool us when they come to Red Bull Arena now. They had a good result against DC and that’s exactly what they’re looking for is to gain momentum and get their season going.”

The Sounders are coming off a 2-1 home victory over D.C. United, their first points in their last four matches.

New York knows, despite the Sounders woes early this season, you can never underestimate them.

“I think we continue to play our game the way that we want to play as far as counterpress when ball’s up the field," Captain Luis Robles said of the gameplan. "We know that, defensively, we have to be very aware of a few of their players and if we’re able to at least neutralize them a little bit, it increases our chances of winning. There’s going to be a heightened sense of making sure everyone knows where certain players are no matter what the score is, at what point the game is because they have the type of players that within a moment that can change the entire game on it’s head.”
