Match Recap 030720

The New York Red Bulls drew 1-1 against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium in Week 2.

Cristian CĂ¡sseres Jr. struck a powerful right-footed shot from long distance to give the Red Bulls the first goal of the afternoon. Just as the game against FC Cincinnati, Chris Armas’ men got on the scoresheet within the first 20 minutes of the game.

The Venezuelan’s goal came several minutes after David Jensen’s massive save in the 11th minute to keep the game at 0-0.

In the first 45 minutes, New York only had two shots on target against Real Salt Lake’s four but went into halftime with the lead.

Sean Davis and Kyle Duncan had impressive defensive interventions that helped the Red Bulls maintain the 1-0 advantage in the first half. After 45 minutes minutes of play, New York won 34 of their duels.

In the 70th minute, Real Salt Lake almost tied the game via a Douglas MartĂnez header, but the goal got overturned by VAR.

Tom Barlow, Josh Sims and Marc Rzatkowski came in for Brian White, Florian Valot and Kaku in the second half to help New York keep the lead.

However, Damir Kreilach connected a header off a cross into the heart of the box to give Salt Lake their second draw of the season.

New York head back home with a point to prepare their Week 3 match against Minnesota United FC at Allianz Field.
