MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: New York Red Bulls Defeat NYCFC

The New York Red Bulls defeated New York City FC 1-0 in another edition of the New York Derby. The Red Bulls improve their record to 3-2-1, 10 pts.

In the first half, Cristian Cásseres Jr. and Danny Royer created dangerous scoring opportunities to get the Red Bulls ahead in the score.

Ryan Meara, who made his first start of the present season, made a key save in the 30th minute to keep the score 0-0 at halftime.

As the clock reached the 51st minute, the Red Bulls had taken eight shots, three of them on target.

Eight minutes later, Kyle Duncan took a powerful shot outside the box that goalkeeper Sean Johnson couldn’t control, allowing the ball to slowly trickle into the back of the net. After a VAR review, Duncan’s second goal of the season was confirmed.

Jared Stroud, who got his first MLS start, contributed a lot in the build up of plays in the left flank. He came off the pitch to give his place to Kaku in the 73rd minute.

In the 79th minute, Mandela Egbo made his MLS debut coming onto the pitch for Florian Valot.

The second half saw the Red Bulls have good control of the game, with the additions of Kaku Omir Fernandez and Egbo to close out the game, the team kept the ball for long lapses of time and continuously created opportunities around NYCFC’s box.

New York will travel to Philadelphia next Tuesday.
