The New York Red Bulls topped Hartford Athletic, 2-1, in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.

New York will await their next opponent, revealed in a draw on Thursday, April 21 at 12 PM ET.

Goals from Lewis Morgan and Aaron Long set the tone in the first half for New York, who gave up a set piece goal early in the second half to the USL Championship side.

Morgan opened the scoring on the night, turning and shooting low to the near post and beating the Hartford keeper.

Morgan scored in his first career appearance in the Open Cup, while recording his fourth goal of the season in all competitions, which leads the club.

Luquinhas registered his first career assist in Open Cup play, and his second across all competitions this season.

Long tapped in the eventual game-winner as the ball bounced around in the box as RBNY applied pressure.

Long scored his second career Open Cup goal and his first since June 6, 2018, against New York City FC.

The Oak Hills, California native has now tallied two goals across all competitions for the Red Bulls this season.

Goalkeeper Ryan Meara made his 14th career U.S. Open Cup appearance in net, which is the most by a player in franchise history.

Meara earned his eighth career win in U.S. Open Cup play.

New York are now 4-0-0 on the road this season across all competitions, outscoring their opponents, 10-3, in those matches.

The fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup, the Round of 32, will be played May 10-11, 2022.
