Match Recap PHL - 16x9

The New York Red Bulls beat the Philadelphia Union, 1-0, on Saturday at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Dylan Nealis scored his first MLS goal and Carlos Coronel saved a penalty attempt en route to the first victory over the Union since 2019.

Coronel saved a penalty from Philadelphia Union forward Bruno Damiani in the 68th minute to keep the score level at 0-0.

"It's a good feeling to win this game," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "I know that's very important -- not only for our club, for our group, and for our supporters -- that we have this feeling, to win against Philly."

On the goa, Emil Forsberg played a ball through the Union’s midfield to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who played a ball to Nealis, who’s right-footed shot attempt found the bottom left corner of the net. Nealis scored his first career MLS goal and his second across all competitions this season.

Nealis has recorded a goal contribution in three of his last four appearances across all competitions.

"Better late than never," Nealis said of his first goal in the league."Only took almost 120 games, but no, it was a great performance from the boys tonight. Much, much needed win, almost a must win. Feels good to finally beat Philly."

Choupo-Moting recorded his third MLS assist of the season and his fourth across all competitions. The forward has now tallied a goal contribution in three-straight matches.

Forsberg tallied his ninth MLS assist of the season, which ranks tied for ninth in MLS this year. Forsberg has now recorded a goal contribution in five-straight matches at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Coronel earned his eighth shutout of the season and the 42nd of his Red Bulls career.

The Red Bulls earned their 99th career shutout at home since 2010, which is the most in MLS.

New York earned their 10th MLS win of the season, which is tied for the most in MLS this season and is the most in a single season in franchise history in 2018.

The Red Bulls earned their 150th career MLS win at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

New York will head to Bank of America Stadium to battle Charlotte FC on Sunday, August 24.

"Looking forward to next week, Charlotte, [this] team's had a few struggles on the road," Tim Parker said. "What is going to be needed to actually deliver that full 90 minute performance and get those three points at such a crucial point in the season, it's going to be a lot of the same mentality as we played against Philly, I think. The same hunger that we had these last two games, even though we don't get the result on Wednesday, the desire and how we performed tonight, I think that's the kind of mentality we have to take with us, and just to build off that, the importance of the collective group and building off those performances."

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
