MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: Red Bulls, Orlando Split the Points in Florida

Match Recap - ORL

The New York Red Bulls and Orlando City SC battled to a scoreless draw in Florida, splitting the points again in their second match of the 2025 MLS regular season.

"We didn't start very well, and our biggest fight in this game today was the weather, and we could see it in our warmup," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "We tried everything but we lost easily the ball and our pressing it was not all together, always one step too late in our moments. And then we changed the structure not in the 4-3-3, more in a 4-2-3-1, but it was not a topic for structure because our shifting was not good enough. I said this directly in our locker room, we had a great training week, all the training sessions every day in this week. But at the end, we didn't show this on match day."

Carlos Coronel came up big time and time again for New York, turning away an onslaught of Orlando attacks in the first half. Coronel was credited with four saves, but also denied promising attacks for OCSC without registering a save.

Coronel recorded his third shutout of the season and the 38th of his MLS career. Coronel’s three shutouts this season currently ranks tied for fourth in MLS.

The Paraguayan international recorded his 17th career shutout on the road for New York.

New York played most of the second half up a man after a second yellow to Orlando, but couldn't find the back of the net, despite controlling the flow after halftime.

"We have to defend as a team, better, more aggressive," Schwarz said. "But it was today not tactical point, because what I said on our Wednesday training, when we were always playing 11 against 11, was top in our shifting. We were so quick, but maybe, and this is then my responsibility, maybe the load was too high for this game today during our training week, and that's it. But we got a point against a very good opponent here on the road."

New York returns to Sports Illustrated Stadium for a two-match homestand, beginning with a match against Atlantic Cup rivals, D.C. United, on Saturday, April 19.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
