The New York Red Bulls had to play from behind for almost all 90 minutes against New York City FC

A goal in the first minute from Alexander Callens put the home team in front, and another goal in the 23rd minute doomed the Red Bulls in what ended up being a 2-0 final at Yankee Stadium.

Both goals came on set pieces.

The Red Bulls thought they had pulled one back through Elias Manoel late in the first half, but the goal was determined to be offside with the help of VAR.

From then on, New York failed to get through NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson, who earned his league-leading fourteenth clean sheet of the MLS season.

The Red Bulls still sit in third place of the Eastern Conference, but now only have a one point advantage over their New York Derby rivals.

After the international break, New York will head to Ohio to take on the Columbus Crew in the penultimate game of the regular season on October 1 at Lower.com Field.
