INSIDE THE 18: Ryan Meara Gets The Nod in Goal

Ryan Meara USOC

Ryan Meara will start in goal for the New York Red Bulls, the first time Luis Robles is not starting in a league match in 183 games.

Robles is out this week with a knee injury and is considered week-to-week.

Meara starts his first MLS match since 2015, while on loan to New York City FC. Meara started all five matches in net during the Red Bulls 2017 U.S. Open Cup run, taking them all the way to the final. He recorded his third career Open Cup shutout vs. NYCFC, started his second consecutive match, tying a career-best seven saves in the win over Philadelphia, recorded a penalty-kick save to help top the Union and tallied his fourth career Open Cup shutout against New England last season.

Head Coach Jesse Marsch will run with the same 10 field players from previous matches, with Bradley Wright-Phillips starting at forward and wearing the Captain's armband.

Florian Valot, Kaku and Daniel Royer will make up the attacking midfielders, while Tyler Adams and Sean Davis hold down the defensive side of the field.

Kemar Lawrence, Aaron Long, Tim Parker and Michael Amir Murillo will make up the back line ahead of Meara.

The Red Bulls will have Evan Louro serving as the backup keeper, with Vincent Bezecourt, Aurelien Collin, Fidel Escobar, Derrick Etienne, Jr., Connor Lade and Alex Muyl available as subs.

Sunday’s nationally broadcast matchup is set for 7 p.m. ET with coverage on FS1, FOX Sports Go and New York Red Bulls Radio in English on TuneIn. New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 6:30 p.m. ET with triHonda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon.
