'Important to Learn' from Loss

The wild start to the season caught up to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.

"It’s been a crazy start to the year. It’s been a good start for us, but we can’t feel good about ourselves we have to stay focused," Head Coach Jesse Marsch said. "The important part is to learn from it."

The team has played in five games over 17 days and six competitive matches overall since leaving preseason.

Marsch said he will plan to give a couple of days off this week before they take on Minnesota United on Saturday at Red Bull Arena.

"We talked before the game just about how we want to look like us, it’s tough to take this result away now knowing we gave up a PK," midfielder Tyler Adams said. "We didn’t create too much, but we did have chances, some unlucky we could’ve scored, but at the end of the day we move on from this sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take a step forward so we’ll take it from here now.”

The talk in the locker room following the match was necessary, they said.

"We just had a hard talk with ourselves after the game, we were very straight with each other and said that it wasn’t good enough," Marsch said.

With their first loss of the year, the club will come back to reality and refocus for Saturday.

“You need to take a step backward sometimes," Adams said. "We were definitely at a high point, but we don’t want to get complacent at the same time, so this helps us break even a little bit. Now, we go forward all eyes on Minnesota.”
