Escobar and Murillo Make World Cup Debuts

SOCHI, RUSSIA (June 18, 2018) - Red Bulls defenders Michael Amir Murillo and Fidel Escobar played in their first-ever FIFA World Cup match for the Panama National Team, as both went the full 90 in a 3-0 defeat to Belgium.


With Murillo starting and right back and Escobar at centerback, Los Canaleros had their hands full with the likes of Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku running at the Panama back line.


Panama went into the half tied at 0-0, as the country also made their debut in the World Cup after finishing third in Concacaf qualifiying.


Escobar and Murillo were the only two Panama players to record shots on target in the defeat.


Panama will continue play in Group G on June 24 as they take on England at 8 a.m. ET at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Govgorod, Russia.
