The New York Red Bulls welcomed Young Designated Player Alejandro “Kaku” Romero Gamarra to the squad on February 16, 2018.

1: New York’s newest designated player helped CA Huracan to promotion to Argentina’s first division in 2015. Upon returning to the top flight, Gamarra made 72 appearances, earning four goals and 10 assists.



2: Kaku helped CA Huracan to two titles, including Copa Argentina (2013-14), which includes teams from all divisions of Argentinian soccer, and Supercopa Argentina (2014), which pinned the winner of Copa Argentina against the Primera Division champions.


3: Gamarra played three matches for the Argentina U-20 Men’s National Team at the 2015 U-20 FIFA World Cup. The youth international started one match and came on as a substitute for two other matches during the Group Stage.


23: At 23-years-old, the Argentinian is the youngest Designated Player in New York Red Bulls history. He began his professional career at age 18 in Argentina with CA Huracan.



95: In six seasons with CA Huracan, Gamarra played 95 games for the club and accumulated 29 points on eight goals and 13 assists.
