FRISCO, TEXAS (March 31, 2018) – The New York Red Bulls Academy U-17 team fell to the Seattle Sounders Academy, 2-1, in the Championship game of the Premier Division in the Generation adidas Cup. New York defeated Tigres (MX), San Jose Earthquakes, Chicago Fire and Monterrey (MX) en route to the Championship match.
New York started the match with the opening goal in the eighth minute coming from the penalty spot. Striker Scotty Taylor stepped up to the spot and blasted his attempt straight down the middle, catching the Seattle goalkeeper guessing, to give New York the 1-0 lead.

In the 29th minute, Seattle Sounders 2 (USL) player Ray Serrano was sent off with a straight red card for a tackle on Dylan Sullivan, brother of New York Red Bulls Homegrown Tyler Adams. The card left New York to play up a man the rest of the match.
New York did not capitalize on that advantage, though Jose Escandon came close in the 34th minute nicking the crossbar on an attempt from outside the box.
Despite the advantage, Seattle found the game-winner in the 61st minute, slotting a ball at an acute angle past a diving Goodman.
The final minutes ran out without New York being able to muster a clear chance on goal.
Following the trophy presentation, New York’s Goodman was awarded the Premier Division’s Golden Glove, an award for the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
