Aaron Long Captains USMNT for the Second Straight Match

USMNTvsCostaRica

San Jose, Calif. (February 2, 2019) – New York Red Bulls center back Aaron Long captained the U.S. Men’s National Team and played the full 90 against Costa Rica, as the National Team won 2-0 on Saturday at Avaya Stadium.

Long, 26, earned his fourth cap for the USMNT, and captained the squad for the second straight match.

In the 58th minute, Long almost broke the 0-0 tie against Los Ticos, after a corner attempt by the USMNT, as he tried to flick it with his back heel, which was subsequently blocked. He later secured the rebound for a second attempt, but shot it just over the cross bar.

The tie was eventually broken in the 80th minute by Sebastian Lletget, who headed in the game-winning goal off a cross by Jonathan Lewis. The USMNT extended their lead in the 88th minute with a goal by Paul Arriola.

With January camp for the USMNT now over, Long is set to rejoin the Red Bulls ahead of the second preseason camp in Tucson, Arizona and the Mobile Mini Sun Cup.
