MATCH RECAP: New York Red Bulls II Earn Two Points Via 4:3 Shootout Win Against Toronto FC II at York Lions Stadium

The New York Red Bulls II (10-3-4, 36 pts) draw Toronto FC II (6-6-4, 22 pts) 2-2 and earned two points in a 4:3 shootout win at York Lions Stadium on Friday night.

Toronto opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Midfielder Micah Chisholm played a lateral ball to forward Hassan Ayari who took a touch and curled a shot into the bottom right corner.

Toronto doubled the lead in the 36th minute. Midfielder Malik Henry whipped in a cross onto the six-yard box to sliding forward Josh Nugent who tapped the ball into the back of the net.

Toronto defender Marko Stojadinovic received a red card for a studs up tackle on midfielder Aiden Jarvis in the 56th minute to put TFC II down a man.

New York found the scoresheet in the 73rd minute. Midfielder Andy Rojas put in a cross into the box that was deflected by a defender and fell to midfielder Rafael Mosquera who placed a shot bottom left corner.

Red Bulls II equalized in the final moments of the match in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Mosquera whipped in a corner kick far post to forward Tanner Rosborough who hit a left footed volley into the back of the net.

The match moved to a penalty kick shootout. Goalkeeper Aidan Stokes made a save while midfielder Ibrahim Kasule, forward Roald Mitchell, Mosquera and Rosborough converted their attempts to secure a 4:3 shootout win to take home two points.

Mosquera scored his sixth goal of the season and 10th goal of his career and has scored in back-to back matches.

The Panamanian midfielder tallied his fourth assist of the 2025 campaign and has three goal contributions in his last two appearances.

With the assist, Mosquera is tied with Jeremy Rafanello for seventh-most assists in club history.

Rosborough scored his seventh goal of the season and is tied with Huntsville City’s Christian Koffi and Orlando City’s Sahkur Mohammed for the second-most goals in the Eastern Conference this season.

The Pittsburgh, PA native scored his 13th career goal and surpasses Derrick Etienne Jr and Mathias Jørgensen for sole position of eighth-most goals in club history.

Rosborough has scored in his last three appearances against Toronto.

Kasule made his 64th career appearance tying him with Hassan Ndam and Jared Stroud for fourth-most appearances in club history.

With 28 minutes played, Kasule passes AJ Marcucci for sixth-most minutes played in club history.

Midfielder Steven Sserwadda made his 51st career start and passes Vincent Bezecourt for fourth-most starts in franchise history.

Sserwadda made his 59th career appearance and is tied with Dan Metzger for the fourth-most appearances by a midfielder in club history.

Midfielder Nate Worth made his first career MLS NEXT Pro start.

With the draw, New York extends their road unbeaten streak to four road matches.

Following Friday’s match, New York will return home to MSU Soccer Park to face Hudson River Derby rivals NYCFC II on Sunday, July 20. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
