New York are coming off a strong start to their 2026 MLS NEXT Pro campaign that saw the side defeat Columbus Crew 2 4-2 on March 1 at Sports Illustrated Stadium. All the goals during the match were scored in the first half. Forward Roald Mitchell led the way with his fourth career brace and tacked on an assist. Midfielder Rafael Mosquera and forward Tanner Rosborough added to the scoresheet as well while goalkeeper Aidan Stokes recorded seven saves.
Miami opened their season with a 1-1 draw and 6-5 penalty kick shootout loss to Chicago Fire FC II on Friday, February 27 at Inter Miami CF Stadium. The side took a lead in the 51st minute thanks to a transition goal from forward Mateo Saja but lost the lead in the 55th minute.
Through five all time MLS NEXT Pro matchups against Miami, Red Bulls II hold the advantage going undefeated with a 3-0-2 record. The two sides last faced one another on September 21 at MSU Soccer Park. New York took an early lead thanks to an outside the box strike from defender Matthew Dos Santos. Inter Miami CF II equalized in the 77th minute with a finish from inside the box by forward Diego Rey. The match went on to a penalty kick shootout that saw Miami earn two points via a 4-2 shootout win.
Red Bulls II have performed strong defensively against Miami, giving up only five goals across five matches, which is tied with Atlanta for least goals conceded by New York against a single opponent through their time in MLS NEXT Pro.
On the offensive end, RBNY II have scored two or more goals against Miami in three of their five all time matchups, including two matches with three goals scored.
Mitchell has been in incredible form, scoring six goals in his last five appearances across all competitions.
